On Friday, August 28, the Eiropa League draw took place in Monaco. This is the firs time in the history when the Latvian football club is represented in the group stage of Eurocups. And this football club is "Ventspils"! The "Ventspils" will face the following teams in the group stage: "Sporting" (Portugal, Lisbon), "Herenveen" (Netherlands) and "Hertha" (Germany, Berlin).The first match will be on September 17.

On Tuesday, August 25, "Ventspils" played the 2nd leg match of the Champions league play-off. Latvian champions played against the champions of Switzerland - FC "Zurich" in St. Gallen. The yellow-and-blue fought until the last minute, but suffered the unfortunate defeat by 1:2. The decisive goal was conceded already in the additional time. The only goal scorer in team "Ventspils" was the midfielder Igor Tsigirlas. However there is no time to be sad, because "Ventspils" continues its historical way in the Europa League!

On Wednesday, August 19, "Ventspils" team played the UEFA Champions League play-off round 1st leg match in Riga, "Skonto" stadium. The opponents were team FC "Zurich" from Switzerland. The result was not really promising for the yellow-and-blue - 0:3, however the team of new FK "Ventspils" chief coach Nunzio Zavettieri managed to create many scoring opportunities in the first half... Of course, the defeat of the yellow-and-blue was disappointing, however, there are still many matches ahead, and this means that there is no sense to be sad about this particular match. This is still a very good experience for FK "Ventspils" in the Champions League. Go, go "Ventspils"!

On Wednesday,August 5, "Ventspils" played UEFA Champions league 3rd qualifying 2nd leg match away in Belarus against team BATE from Borisov city. BATE managed to win the match by 2:1, however this result guaranteed the aggregate victory for FK "Ventspils". The decisive away goal was scored by "Ventspils" midfielder Igor Tsigirlas. This is an amazing success for the Latvian champions as they have guaranteed themselves the rights to play in the group stage of Europa League, however the play-off match of the Champions league is ahead and there are still chances to get into the group of the Champions league. FK "Ventspils" became the first club in the Latvian history that will play in the group stage of Eurocups.

On Wednesday, July 22, "Ventspils" played the 2nd leg match of the Champions League away in Luxemburg against team "Dudelange". The match ended by the voctory of the yellow-and-blue - 3:1. Congratulations on the victory! The goal scorers in team "Ventspils" were midfielder Vitaly Astafyev, forward Andrei Butrik and the defender Pavel Mihadyuk. "Ventspils" won their first victory in the away match of Champions League! The next opponent of "Ventspils" is the team from Belarus - "BATE".

On Wednesday, July 15, team "Ventspils" opened its Eurocup season. Three times Latvian champions played the UEFA Champions league 2nd qualifying round 1st leg match at home against the champions of Luxemburg team "Dudelange". The match intense, full of emotions and victorious for tne yellow-and-blue. "Ventspils" celebrated the victory by 3:0! All three goals were scored in the last 11 minutes! The goal scorers: forward Andrey Butrik (great strike over the goalkeeper), defender Denis Kachanov (corner kick and the duly header), striker Vits Rimkus (tremendous goal, long pass and just a single touch send the ball low into the far corner).
